The Hawker Hurricane took its first flight on November 6th, 1935. Though just a prototype at the time the UK Air Ministry was impressed and by June 1936 had placed an order for 600 of them.
Several Royal Air Force squadrons of Hurricanes were quickly created and a Hurricane was the first RAF plane to shoot down a Luftwaffe airplane in October 1939.
The Hurricane and the Spitfire often flew together in campaigns. The later being considered a thoroughbred while the Hurricane was known for being rather slow. However the Hurricane had a reputation for being able to take a few hits and continue flying.
